How to write the letter B in cursive

Capital B begins on line 1 with a straight stroke down to line 3. Without lifting, retrace a little way up, swing out for the small top bowl, pinch in at the middle, then loop the larger bottom bowl. Small b is a tall letter: stem from line 1 to line 3, then a bowl that closes back on the stem.

What to watch on four-line copy

The bottom bowl of capital B is bigger than the top one. Equal bowls make the letter read as the number 8.
The bowl of small b stays inside the middle space, between line 2 and line 3.
Capital B usually ends without a join, so the letter after it starts fresh.

The mistake to correct first

Small b drawn as a circle with a line beside it, copied from print. In cursive the stem comes first, the pencil retraces up, and the bowl grows out of that retrace in one movement.

Practice strip

Trace the shape three times slowly, then write the pair on your own four-line copy. Two minutes a day beats one long session on Sunday.
