How to write the letter O in cursive

Capital O starts below line 1, curves left and all the way round down to line 3, then closes at the top with a small curl pointing right. Small o is the same closed circle in the middle space, ending in a tiny loop at the top so the next letter has something to join.

What to watch on four-line copy

Both forms are closed. An open o reads as a or u.
The exit leaves from the top of o, not the bottom, which is why on and oa look wrong when joined from the base line.
Keep o round. An oval that leans too far flattens the whole word.

The mistake to correct first

Drawing o clockwise. Cursive o goes anticlockwise from the top, the same direction as a, c, d, g and q, so getting it right fixes six letters at once.

Practice strip

Trace the shape three times slowly, then write the pair on your own four-line copy. Two minutes a day beats one long session on Sunday.
