How to write the letter P in cursive

Capital P comes down from line 1 to line 3, retraces upward, then swings out and round into a bowl that closes near the middle. Small p starts at line 2, goes straight down into line 4, comes back up the same path, then makes a bowl that closes on line 3.

What to watch on four-line copy

Small p is the only tail letter with a straight tail. g, j, q and y all curve.
The bowl sits in the middle space, and only the stem enters line 4.
Capital P normally finishes without a join.

The mistake to correct first

The stem of small p stopping at line 3, which leaves the letter looking like a short n with a bowl. The stem has to cross the base line and enter line 4.

Practice strip

Trace the shape three times slowly, then write the pair on your own four-line copy. Two minutes a day beats one long session on Sunday.
