How to write the letter N in cursive

Capital N starts with an up stroke to line 1, comes down to line 3, then arches up and over into a second down stroke. Small n is one hump in the middle space: an up stroke, over the top, then down to sit on line 3, keeping the top of the hump round.

What to watch on four-line copy

Fix n before m and h. Both letters are built from this hump.
Both legs land on line 3 and stay the same distance apart.
The exit hook of n makes the joins in an, in, on and un, which are the first joins to teach.

The mistake to correct first

A pointed hump instead of a round one, which makes n look like a v with an extra leg. Slow the curve at the top rather than writing the letter again and again.

Practice strip

Trace the shape three times slowly, then write the pair on your own four-line copy. Two minutes a day beats one long session on Sunday.
