How to write the letter Q in cursive

Capital Q is a closed oval drawn from just below line 1 down to line 3, finished with a short stroke across the bottom right. Small q makes the belly first in the middle space, then a straight back that runs down into line 4 and hooks to the right.

What to watch on four-line copy

Small q starts like a and g. Belly first, anticlockwise.
The hook of q turns right. The loop of g turns left.
q almost always appears with u, so practise qu as a pair rather than q alone.

The mistake to correct first

q written with a left loop, which is simply g. Check the direction of the tail before checking the belly, because the belly is usually already correct.

Trace the shape three times slowly, then write the pair on your own four-line copy. Two minutes a day beats one long session on Sunday.
