How to write the letter F in cursive

Capital F starts near line 1 with a curve over to the left, comes down to line 3, and finishes with a small tail to the right, then takes a crossbar at middle height. Small f is the only letter that uses all four lines: loop up to line 1, down through line 3, and loop below into line 4.

What to watch on four-line copy

Small f has two loops, one above and one below, and they should be the same width.
Keep the crossbar of small f at line 2 height, not up at the top.
Leave f until the child's loops are already steady, usually last among the tall letters.

The mistake to correct first

The lower loop of small f stopping at line 3. Without the descent into line 4 the letter reads as a tall t, and it cannot join the letter after it.

Practice strip

Trace the shape three times slowly, then write the pair on your own four-line copy. Two minutes a day beats one long session on Sunday.
