How to write the letter X in cursive

Capital X is the only letter written as two separate strokes. Slant from line 1 down to line 3, lift the pencil, then cross from the top right down to the bottom left. Small x is the same cross inside the middle space, and the two strokes meet at the middle.

What to watch on four-line copy

The pencil lifts for x. Every other letter is one or two continuous journeys.
Cross at the middle so all four arms look even.
x is rare in school words, so revise it with the letters around it rather than giving it a full week.

The mistake to correct first

Crossing near the top or the bottom instead of the middle, which makes the letter look like a y or a k once the child writes at normal speed.

Practice strip

Trace the shape three times slowly, then write the pair on your own four-line copy. Two minutes a day beats one long session on Sunday.
